In music, augmented intervals are used to heighten the tension and excitement in a musical piece by raising the interval between two notes by a half note. I experience a similar sense of intrigue and excitement during the intervals between my studio time and travels.
I am drawn to observing and contemplating on the lives of women in our country. The image of women in my paintings intend to evoke the spirit of many women I see and encounter everyday. Since my work in education takes me into a variety of social contexts, I have been fortunate to get a glimpse of the lives of many different people. Paintings from the series titled ‘Chronicles in Augmented Intervals’, are both reflections and reimaginations of women and their environments.
